Reason #387 Why I Love Working at Exygy
11 June 2014
We recently said goodbye to our friend and colleague, Aaron Hanson, who is moving on from Exygy and starting a new chapter. Aaron will surely be missed.
Aaron signed off with a heartfelt email to the Exygy team, which made me feel honored to be a part of this revolutionary company. He agreed to let me share the email here:
And so, four years and two months after it all begins, it ends.
I’ve learned innumerable important things in my time at Exygy, not the least of which is my affinity for bullet points. So, here are a few random musings, large and small in no particular order.
- Working at Exygy is everything you make it. It really is. It’s so different from any job i’ve ever had. There is so much opportunity to turn your job into your vocation, to show up and be proactive and work on new things that interest you, to take on new projects, and help shape the company as a whole. I loved that more than anything else about Exygy.
- Eat as many mission burritos as you possibly fit in your stomach. Holy shit do I miss biking around the mission and eating burritos in Dolores.
- Your colleagues are amazing. It’s fun to re-read the staff bios on our website. Everyone at Exygy is fucking smart and motivated. Don’t forget that. It’s so important to surround yourself with highly motivated people. You become the average of the 5 people you surround yourself.
- Use the Pomodoro Technique. It’s been amazing for me to sustain my mental and physical energy throughout the workday. It’s amazing what 5 minute breaks do for focus.
- Exygy is going to build awesome products. I can’t wait to see Exygy move into the product space. It’s fun seeing the initial success of the Meteor class, and I know it’s just the beginning. We have all the right mix of smarts and grits to build some kick.
- Wake up your mind in addition to your body. We spend so much of the day trying to keep our minds awake and focused (coffee), that we neglect keeping our body happy — they are inextricable. There is nothing better than sitting down to work with a runner’s high.
- Predictable Revenue Model — If you are ever interested in learning about lead prospecting and general best practices for sales, I highly recommend this book.
