How to Build a Real-time Web App with Meteor in under 30 Minutes
7 July 2014
Working in the web development industry, people are always bouncing their web and mobile app ideas off me and asking me, “What would it take to build this?” Sometimes their ideas are outlandish, sometimes they’re actually pretty good — but a lot of the time they don’t really have budget to hire a professional dev shop like Exygy. So the next question is, “How could I build this myself?”
Luckily, the web has come a long way since the days of Geocities (though if you’re feeling nostalgic, the Geocities-izer is for you), and frameworks like Ruby on Rails and hosting providers like Heroku and Ninefold have made building and deploying complex applications much easier than it used to be.
However, Rails does have a bit of a learning curve, and many fledgling engineers do get scared off by the technical knowledge required to become a kick-ass Rails engineer. So if you’re a self-motivated individual looking to get a start in the industry, where do you turn?
Meteor is a revolutionary new framework for any curious engineer to get started quickly — amazingly quickly! — building their own complex web applications. All it takes is a general understanding of HTML and CSS, and a pretty solid understanding of JavaScript, and you’re off to the races.
Here at Exygy we got so excited about Meteor, that we started contributing to the Meteor package repository (with our Minimongoid model architecture package), and we designed our own easy-to-follow 30 minute course that gives you all the tools you need to get started building your own Meteor applications.
If you head to our Labs page, you’ll find all the details about the Meteor course that we’ve put together. And for a limited time only, you can use the 33PERCENTOFFMETEOR coupon code to get it at a discounted rate ($19 instead of the full-priced $29). We’ve already been getting great reviews and awesome feedback from the people who have completed the course, and we’d love to get your feedback as well.
We’re excited to build a community around our students, be there to answer questions and really help foster your growth as web engineers! So please send us any questions to meteor@exygy.com and have fun with the course!
