Exygy is excited to announce a new addition to our blog, where we will be rounding up a list of upcoming events in the Bay Area that focus on design, engineering, civic tech, community building and more. As we begin to curate this list, we would love to get your feedback.

December 9th

SF Brigade Code for America Demo Night. Interested in helping San Francisco? Excellent! Whether or not you know how to code, you can help! Join our weekly hack (hacking = building) night focused on open government and civic tech in San Francisco.  Contribute to the betterment of San Francisco, build your own portfolio of work or work on someone else’s cool project, Meet new (and different!) people.

UXNight: How to Organize & Present User Research As UX designers, we must do research to produce great designs.  Unfortunately, there are still many organizations that do not support or budget for it.  Let’s help clients understand the value of user research by explaining our findings with confidence and clarity. Marieke McCloskey and Kendall Youngstrom, from UserTesting, have conducted research for over 1,000 projects per year.  Luckily for us, they are teaming together to share their knowledge at UXNight.

Startup Policy Lab is celebrating our first annual Holiday Happy Hour. Special guest Miguel Gamiño, the CIO of San Francisco, and members of the San Francisco Dept. of Technology will be joining us! Startup Policy Lab brings public policy directly to the startup community and empowers individuals to participate and engage. Our events focus on education and gather people together that are interested in discussing, sharing, educating, and building a community around policy issues critical to startups and early stage companies.

December 10th

Doing Good Together Holiday Party. Join Founders Pledge, Startups Give Back & CivicMakers for a fabulous night of networking, noshing and toasting to a year of giving back to our communities. The evening will start with the monthly Civic Mixer held at The Hall by CivicMakers where you’ll meet the best and brightest in civic innovation. Then, at 8pm, the Doing Good Together Holiday Party will kick in, with heavy bites, flash grant giving, a DJ and a no-host bar.

December 11th

San Francisco: Global Technology Success Tech London Advocates, the most influential independent collection of tech experts, investors and professionals in London, will meet in San Francisco to analyze the success of technology on a global scale. The event will aim to discuss the relationship between technology communities in San Francisco and London and ways in which they can work more closely together.

December 15th

The Great Debate: The Role of Tech in Shaping 21st Century Schools and Classrooms is hosted by SF+Acumen, in partnership with Runway Incubator, and will feature a panel with leading Silicon Valley edupreneurs and practitioners Dan Carroll (Co-Founder, Clever), Lynzi Ziegenhagen (CEO, Schoolzilla), Kosar Jahani (Impact Manager, Samaschool), and Sam Chaudhary (Co-Founder & CEO, ClassDojo), and moderator, Betsy Corcoran (Co-Founder & CEO, EdSurge) as we consider the evolving role of tech in changing what’s possible in education.

Tech Inclusion Holiday Party Come celebrate tech diversity and inclusion! 2015 has been a year of ups and downs for inclusion in tech, but overall we are seeing a shift in the desire to change. Let’s celebrate our wins (big or small) and talk about what’s next! Share what you’re working on, find collaborators and like-minded changemakers, and be your full self.

A Special Benefit for Variety kids viewing of STAR WARS: Episode VII. Join us for a special screening on Saturday December 19th at 4pm, at IMAX The TECH Museum of Innovation in San Jose. For over 65 years Variety Children’s Charity has met our mission of providing medical equipment, rehabilitation services, housing assistance, community aid, and more, to tens of thousands of the Bay Area’s children and families most in need.
