SpeedGeekers Announced!
26 November 2011
We’ve got an all-star list of folks who will be struttin’ their WordPress stuff on Monday the 28th at Exygy.
There’s room for a few more, so if you’re interested please let us know by submitting I’m a SpeedGeeker form or emailing us at SpeedGeeker -at- exygy.com
Here’s the current list of sessions:
Get Geeky!
w/ Ben Sheldon (about-to-be-from-CodeForAmerica)
Ben will be digging into the WordPress Filter/Action system with you and showing why 80% of the solutions on the WordPress.org Forums that recommend some convoluted front-end javascript are, if not wrong, seriously misguided
Get Responsive!
w/ Richa Avasthi
Richa will be showing off her blog’s latest theme, which she has redesigned using the principles of responsive web design so that it works on smart phones, tablets and laptops alike.
Get SEO’d and MultiLingual!
w/ Jason Thai
Jason will be showing off a plugin called SEOTranslate that translates wordpress-based websites into over 30 different languages. In addition, translated website content is automatically stored in the website directory, allowing for indexing by major search engines. To add an extra kick, plugin is fully integrated with all the best SEO plugins.
Get Admin’d!
w/ Gaird Schlesinger of Mighty Digital / Hitch Creative
Gaird will be showing off a cool and very handy plugin called Sidekick, a lightsaber when battling administrative tasks in WordPress. It enhances the admin interface, making certain tasks simply less painful.
Get Contentless!
w/ Karla Leibowitz of Tech Liminal
Karla made a website that displays lots of information but contains no content! How is that? She is publishing information from the city grid media database via api (think citysearch.com). This project was a chance to see WordPress perform as a framework, rather than a CMS. Karla is using the theme display and the category structure, the admin interface, and taking advantage of easy and rapid deployment of SEO ready new “pages”, but is able to nestle, with shortcodes and page templates, information from an exterior source into the WordPress framework. This work also demonstrates location based search, google maps, and page access by URL eg: www.mysite.com/searchfor?what=this&where=there&who=me
Get Important!
w/ David Anderson of Important Media
David will talk about Important Media’s use of WordPress as a platform.
Get Theme’d!
w/ Ed Ehrgott of TekPals
Ed will demo 2 themes. One is in the WP repository (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/tpsunrise) and the other is about to be submitted.
Get Live!
w/ Jenna Langer of LiveFyre
Jenna will talk about how LiveFyre integrated w/ WordPress
Get Buddy’d!
w/ Ben Hansen
Ben will talk about BuddyPress.
Get Fast, Get Flared!
w/ Rosevita Ward of Learn That
Rosevita will be showing how integrating CloudFlare w/ WordPress easily sped up her site + made it better!
